CCICED Dialogue on Gender Mainstreaming in Environment and Climate Change

2018-03-23author£ºsource£º

CCICED Dialogue on Gender Mainstreaming in Environment and Climate Change was held on March 13, 2018, at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Vancouver, Canada. Participants exchanged information on the latest policy progress and best practices globally on gender and environment, and shared views on how to better incorporate the gender dimension into the main policy research thematic areas for the CCICED during Phase VI.

It is agreed that climate change could have more adverse impacts on vulnerable groups including women and girls. Responsible for production and daily life at home, rural women are directly exposed to the impact of climate change in many countries, and could play an important role in climate change adaptation. Many national governments and international organizations incorporate gender perspectives into policymaking and development planning through gender strategy and toolkits. Global best practices in mainstreaming gender in research and policy recommendations on environment and sustainable development include gender-based analysis, identification of strategic entry points for gender equality-informed policy research, and follow-through to ensure the gender analysis informs policy recommendations. The experiences could be of valuable reference to the CCICED Phase VI policy research and recommendations.

The event was co-hosted by Mr. Guo Jing, CCICED Deputy Secretary General and Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Ecological Environment of China, Ms. Lucie Desforges, Director General of Multilateral and Bilateral Affairs, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Dr. Arthur Hanson, CCICED International Chief Advisor. Experts from international organizations, think tanks, and universities, such as UN Environment, World Resources Institute, SFU, and China Women¡¯s University, attended the meeting.
